Capitals defense prospect Jonas Siegenthaler received 17:03 of ice time Wednesday night — a team-low amongst d-men — but that doesn’t mean his preseason debut wasn’t memorable.
After completing a warmup on the ice, Siegenthaler jumped on the wrong bench to start the period. And as one would predict with this team, Siegenthaler was relentlessly made fun of by his teammates.
On Instagram after the game, Jakub Vrana took a video selfie while sitting beside Siegenthaler on the team plane. “Wrong bench ❤️😂,” wrote Vrana, as he slowly panned his phone’s camera towards Siegenthaler’s face.

Meanwhile, Capitals enforcer Tom Wilson admired Siegenthaler’s courage to “send a message to the other team.”
Sometimes you just have to send a message to the other team and take their bench 😂 @josieg97 #classicmixup pic.twitter.com/15j1HEmWkd

Evgeny Kuznetsov, who retweeted Wilson’s video, also retweeted the RMNB story that recapped Siegenthaler’s bold decision to try and leave the team that originally drafted him.
