We all have strengths and things we struggle with. On Thursday, several NHL players showed off one thing they can’t do well: draw.
During the NHL Media Tour, star players met with media outlets to conduct interviews, take photos, and film content that will be used throughout the season. USA Today Sports did something different. They asked about a dozen players to draw their own team’s logos. The players were allowed to look at the logo if they needed inspiration.
The results vary, but most of these drawings look like a 5-year-old’s artwork a hockey mom hangs on the fridge.
Artist: Chris Tanev
Scoring: B-. Though it looks more like a pumpkin than an orca whale.
But hey, it looks great on a jersey.

Artist: Tanner Pearson
Scoring: A. But let’s consider this is one of the easiest NHL logos to draw. It’s basically an upside down house with LA and a crown.
Artist: Jeff Skinner
Scoring: A
Artist: 10-year-old Johnny Gaudreau
Scoring: C+. It’s part Calgary Flames logo, and part Pac-Man. And no, that’s not how you spell your name, Johnny.
Artist: Jonathan Huberdeau
Scoring: B+
Artist: Charlie Coyle
Scoring: A
Artist: Shayne Gostisbehere
Scoring: A. I’m not sure what is happening on the wings, but still a great effort.
Artist: Nathan MacKinnon
Scoring: B+
Artist: Martin Jones
Scoring: C+. USA Today Sports shared that Jones was the only artist that drew from memory. If the shark didn’t end up looking like a tuna, I would have given him a higher grade.
Artist: Mark Scheifele
Scoring: D. This is a disaster.
Artist: Ryan Getzlaf
Scoring: B
Artist: Jonathan Drouin
Scoring: B+. But it’s an easy logo
Artist: Max Domi
Scoring: A. Wow. Here’s your winner. Are we sure Domi didn’t trace this?
