In July, former Capitals forward Alex Semin applied to a college graduate program in his hometown of Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
On Monday, sibnovosti.ru reported that Semin passed his entrance exam and was accepted into a master’s degree program at Siberian Federal University. Semin received a state-funded position in the university’s Theory and Technology of Base Metals and Alloys program. He will officially become a student of the University on September 1st.
His hockey career appears over.
A well-known hockey player Alexander Semin was accepted to a master’s degree program at Siberian Federal University. The athlete received a state-funded position in Theory and Technology of Base Metals and Alloys program of the Metallurgy department in the Institute of Non-ferrous Metals and Materials.
According to the order of admissions published on the University’s website, Semin successfully passed the entrance examination, having scored 71 points out of 100. Semin’s score was the 8th highest among the applicants for the program. The top scoring applicant received 91 poins, while the lowest accepted score was 57.
The order is signed by the University Rector Evgeny Vaganov and coordinated with Admission Comission Secretary Alexander Usachev. Semin will officially become a student of the University on September 1st.
The KHL regular season begins next week on August 21. The 33-year-old former first-round pick began his NHL career in 2003. Semin tallied 517 points in the 650 NHL games, scoring a career high 40 goals with the Capitals during the 2009-10 season.
Semin won the Gagarin Cup with Metallurg Magnitogorsk during the 2015-16 KHL season. He won two World Championships with Russia.
