While Nicklas Backstrom and Andre Burakovsky were tossing medicine balls under a hot Swedish sun, Alex Ovechkin was sweating, but for a different reason.
After a long honeymoon in the Maldives, Alex Ovechkin has returned to the beach after a two-week hiatus. In an Instagram story photo, Ovechkin, shirtless and wearing his favorite Russia Is My Life hat, posed for a photo with his in-laws.
In May, Caps general manager Brian MacLellan talked about what Ovechkin would need to do to stay at the top of his game as he enters the latter part of his career.
“The game is getting faster,” MacLellan said. “He’s going to have to train in a different way, a more speed way than a power way. He’s going to have to make adjustments to stay relative in the game.”
Ovechkin has apparently heeded that advice, turning to scuba-diving to work on his core or something.
This looks fun.
Ovechkin turns 32-years-old in September and has four years remaining on his 13-year, $124 million contract he signed in 2008. Training camp is approximately seven weeks away, which gives the Russian machine plenty of time to get in tip top shape before coming back to DC.
