The Washington Capitals’ 2017 Development Camp will begin Tuesday and today the Caps released their official schedule and roster.
Notable players in attendance include 2016 first-round pick Lucas Johansen and 2015 second-round pick Jonas Siegenthaler, who are both wildcards for a NHL roster spot this fall. Meanwhile, every player the Capitals selected in the 2017 Draft will attend this year’s Development Camp including defenseman Tobias Geisser (120th overall), defenseman Sebastian Walfridsson (151st overall), defenseman Benton Maass (182nd overall), and left-winger Kristian Roykas Marthinsen (213th). The oldest player in camp will be 25-year-old right wing Stephen Collins out of SUNY Geneseo (NCAA) while the youngest is the 2017 seventh-round pick Marthinsen who is 17 (August 28, 1999 birthday).
According to the Capitals PR, Riley Barber attended last summer’s Development Camp and appeared in three games with the NHL team in 2016-17. Seven players who attended the 2016 development camp played for Washington’s AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, during the 2016-17 regular season (Barber, Madison Bowey, Travis Boyd, Tyler Lewington, Zach Sanford, Jonas Siegenthaler, Colby Williams) and were joined by Garrett Pilon for their playoff run. Four players (Adam Carlson, Dylan Margonari, Tim McGauley, John Parker) played for Washington’s ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays, in 2016-17.
2015 first-round pick and one of the best goalie prospects in the world, Ilya Samsonov, will not be in attendance for this year’s camp.
