The Capitals will host the Montreal Canadiens for their home opener on Saturday, October 7. This is the second time in franchise history that the Caps will face Montreal during a home opener. The Caps hold a strong 14-2-1-1 in home openers.
The Capitals will open the season in Ottawa for the Senators home opener on October 5.The full schedule will be released on Thursday.
This is a already a better season opener than last year, where the Capitals had to watch the Penguins raise the Stanley Cup banner.

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, today announced the club’s home opener for the 2017-18 season will be on Saturday, Oct. 7 vs. the Montreal Canadiens at 7 p.m. at Verizon Center.

The Capitals are 14-2-1-1 all-time in home openers at Verizon Center and will face Montreal in their home opener for the second time in franchise history (2014-15). Washington posted a 2-1-0 record against Montreal last season and is 37-32-9-2 all-time at home against the Canadiens. Nicklas Backstrom (3g, 1a) and Alex Ovechkin (1g, 3a) led the Capitals with four points in three games against Montreal in 2016-17. Braden Holtby posted a 2-1-0 record against the Canadiens last season with a 1.69 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage.
