Mitch Marner throws out first pitch at Blue Jays game, gets chirped for holey jorts

During the offseason, teammates spend their summers chirping each other on social media. The most recent victim is Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner.

After Marner threw the first pitch at the Blue Jays game on Tuesday, he was mercilessly chirped by teammates and fans alike.

Marner was called out for three things.

  1. His pitch
  2. His holey jorts
  3. His custom jersey

So basically everything that day. Let’s review

His Pitch

Marner threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman. I have never attempted to throw a baseball seriously, but I am 100% sure Marner did better than I ever could. He even added a cute little pitcher’s leg raise. Marner’s pitch was almost a strike, but Stroman did some pitch framing to help.

Marner was eviscerated by his Leafs teammates. First, Brian Boyle said Marner has an arm “like a squirt gun.” Whatever that means.

James van Riemsdyk joked that the speed of the pitch was similar to a Nazem Kadri wrist shot.

Marner did not take any offense to that comparison.

His Jorts

Many consider jorts as a huge fashion faux pas. Twitter user Tom Hunter sent a tweet out blaming the jorts on Marner not having his buddy Auston Matthews around to help pick out clothes for him.

Matthews quickly came to the defense of Marner’s fashion choices and sent back a photo of his own, almost identical, jorts.

As a girl, I can’t really speak on behalf on how horrible they may be, but I guess if you HAVE to wear jorts, Marner’s really aren’t all that bad.

His Custom Jersey

While throwing out the pitch, Marner wore a Blue Jays jersey with his own name and number on the back. During the game, Marner sat between friends Spencer Holt and Ryan Whalen, who were both wearing jerseys of a Blue Jays player.

Holt did not miss the opportunity to shame Marner on Instagram, captioning the photo of their jerseys “When you get your own name on a jays jersey <<<."

This was not the first time that Marner spent time with the Blue Jays.

Marner, Matthews, van Riemsdyk, Matt Martin, and Frederik Andersen took a batting practice in April at Rogers Centre. Matthews and van Riemsdyk hit home runs while Anderson had a nice stop on defense. Marner didn’t do as well.

This is the kid who almost single-handedly beat the Capitals in the first round.
