The Ottawa Senators franchise is desperate to get to the Stanley Cup Final for the second time. They will do anything to win. That apparently includes spraying Sidney Crosby with Gatorade while he’s near the bench.
While the Senators were up by one goal in the third, Marc Methot began poking Crosby with his stick. Mike Hoffman then began spraying Crosby with his Gatorade bottle. Crosby had no visible reaction despite becoming soaking wet.
Crosby and Methot do have some history that likely influenced Hoffman to give the Penguins captain a late-game shower. Back in April, Crosby slashed off part of Methot’s finger.
Warning: this video is really graphic.
During Game Six, Methot made sure to show Crosby that his surgically repaired finger was fully functioning.
The Senators continued to give Crosby a hard time during the game.
The referees let most of the antics play out. Crosby only drew one penalty the whole game; a holding call on Methot during the second period.
“It probably escalates with every game just because teams get to know each other,” Crosby said to the media after the game. “It’s a natural progression with the series with the intensity…I wouldn’t say it was anything out of the ordinary.”
If you need more reasons to root for the Sens during Game Seven, we put together a nice pros and cons list.
