Nicklas Backstrom tallies another beautiful assist in Sweden’s 4-2 victory over Slovakia

After defeating Slovakia 4-2 Tuesday, the Swedish National Team is now 2-0 since Nicklas Backstrom joined the team.

The Caps first-line center scored his third point of the 2017 World Championship, tallying an assist on William Nylander’s first period goal.

4:02 into the period, Backstrom raced down the left wing and found Nylander crashing the net. Nylander took the puck backhand, flipped it to his forehand, and wristed a shot past Slovakian goaltender Julius Hudacek.

Nylander was very happy about his goal. The goal was Nylander’s third tally since his longtime friend arrived from Washington.

Later in the game, Backstrom had an opportunity to score his second goal of the tourney, but clanked his no-angle shot off the post.

Here’s another look.

Sweden finished the tournament 5-1-1 and finished third in Group A. Sweden will face Switzerland in Paris Thursday in the quarterfinals.
