Nicklas Backstrom’s big day in Germany wasn’t done after tallying his first 2017 World Championship point.
Late in the third period, Backstrom scored his first goal of the tournament, a power play goal, to give Sweden a 4-2 lead.
That would end up being the final score.

With 2:29 remaining in the third period, Backstrom iced the game for Sweden after Denmark scored two unanswered goals. Backstrom one-timed a pass from John Klingberg past Denmark goaltender George Sorensen. William Nylander also tallied an assist – his third point of the game.
Sweden had not scored on its previous ten power plays.
This was Backstrom’s first goal in World Championship play since 2008 and his fifth career tally in five career tournaments (2006, 2007, 2008, 2012, and 2017). Backstrom scored one goal for Sweden in 2007 and three others in 2008.
He finished Sunday’s game with two points. Backstrom also assisted on William Nylander’s second goal of the game in the second period.
Tre Kronor will next play Tuesday against Slovakia.
