TJ Oshie is one of the best hockey players in the world and one of the rare players who is universally beloved by NHL fans. But when he was traded to Washington two summers ago, his first name confused us.
Oshie’s real name is Timothy Leif, but he goes by TJ. What does the J mean?
“My first name is Timothy and my mom, when I was really young, watched the movie The Champ and the little boy in the movie’s name is T.J.,” Oshie said to the Blues in 2009. “She liked it and figured it would work out. The J actually (doesn’t stand for anything). Just something my mom gave me.”
So TJ doesn’t even know.
Inspired by this mystery, RMNB’s Peter Hassett tweeted T and J names that could potentially be Oshie’s full name. Hassett would tweet this joke on the RMNB account every time Oshie scored this season. Here’s a sampling.

Earlier this week, we got an email from Ben Little. Oshie’s name was updated on Wikipedia.
This is really random but I was looking up something for TJ Oshie and saw something different. I remember the last time I was on his page his name was “Timothy Leif Oshie” but now it’s “Timothy Jimothy Oshie.” Really random I know, but I assume it’s something the boys at RMNB would want to see!
Here’s the screenshot.
This, like most dumb things on the internet, became A Thing on social media and Timothy Jimothy got meme’d.

To celebrate TJ’s new name, we made a new t-shirt. We hope you like it. It’s really dumb.
Oshie’s Wikipedia page has been updated since, but let us hope that Timothy Jimothy, Dale, Oven Chicken, and the rest of the lowercase crew can make some history tonight.
