Wednesday night after the Caps clinched the number one seed in the playoffs, Nate Schmidt spoke with CSN Mid-Atlantic and explained the story behind his mohawk. It involves a hotel bathroom, a razor, a hockey superstar who has no training as a barber, and regret.
Did you lose a bet?
Nate Schmidt: “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
I heard there was a mishap with the electric razor.
Nate Schmidt: “I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.”
You went into the barber and said ‘give me this?’
Nate Schmidt: “If the barbershop was my hotel bathroom with Braden Holtby and Taylor Chorney then yeah. That is what happened. It was just kind of a mishap, a misfire, on the shaver, and this is what we came up with. Holts started it and panicked. Just panic button. Panic button. Calls up [Chorns], ‘Troy, you have to take care of this.'”
Why didn’t you get Holts back with that flow of his?
Nate Schmidt: “You know, I don’t have that good a look. You don’t mess things up when you have it.”
It’s like Holtby started it and left the building.
Nate Schmidt: “He got to like right here [points to the right side of his head] and was like ‘I can’t do it. I just can’t do it anymore. I’m going to screw up.’ I’m like, ‘You’re leaving me out to dry here.’ And Chore took over. He did a pretty good job.”
