With their 2-0 win over the Rangers, the Washington Capitals clinched:

  • The Presidents Trophy
  • The #1 seed in the Eastern Conference
  • Home-ice throughout the entire 2017 playoffs
  • The Metropolitan Division crown

The Capitals are the first team since the 2011-12 Vancouver Canucks to win consecutive Presidents’ Trophies. And it’s not necessarily a death sentence in the playoffs.
