Giuliani has a long history in politics. He served as mayor of New York City and received rave reviews for his leadership in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Giuliani was named Time magazine’s Person of the Year for 2001.
Seven years later, Giuliani sought the Republican Party’s 2008 presidential nomination. After not receiving enough support, Giuliani dropped out and supported eventual Republican nominee John McCain.
In 2016, Giuliani jumped back into the spotlight when he supported Donald Trump during the 2016 US presidential election. Giuliani was a visible defender of Trump on political shows. After Trump won the nomination, Giuliani was believed to be a likely pick for Secretary of State in the administration. Instead on December 9, 2016, Trump announced that Giuliani had removed his name from consideration for any Cabinet post. Giuliani now serves as an informal adviser on cybersecurity to the White House.
Giuliani also advised President Trump on his January 27, 2017, executive order barring citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.
Giuliani is the most prominent politician to watch a Caps game since Vice President Joe Biden attended a Caps-Flyers game at Wells Fargo Center in December.
