Alex Ovechkin hasn’t scored in nine games, but Saturday night in Los Angeles, the Russian Machine was passion defined. A fiery Ovechkin had 15 shot attempts against the Kings.
My favorite Ovechkin moment came late in the third period, when The Great Eight avoided a too many men penalty by diving awkwardly into the Caps bench.
It did not end well.
The play started when John Carlson sent a backhanded pass to Tom Wilson by the Caps bench. Ovechkin, who was nearly off the ice for a shift change, got spooked by the pass and hopped off the ice as soon as humanly possible.
Ovechkin’s knees hit the boards first, sending the future Hall of Famer tumbling back-first onto the bench floor.
Braden Holtby could not contain his laughter on the bench.
Nor could I watching from home.
