One of the biggest grossing movies over the last year is Disney’s animated film Moana and it now has an amazing Caps connection.
The film, which Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson contributed his voice to, has grossed over $587 million worldwide, and received two Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (“How Far I’ll Go”).
The lead character Moana was voiced by 16-year-old newcomer Auli’i Cravalho, a native of Kohala, Hawaii. According to Disney, Cravalho, who was in her freshman year of high school, was the last person to audition out of hundreds of actresses. On February 28, Cravalho, wearing a stunning red dress, performed the film’s signature song at the Oscars along with Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Now that I’m done that context, here’s where I blow your mind. Cravalho owns a Capitals shirsey of fourth-line center Jay Beagle.
In a photo posted in January, Lauren Trujillo (@aloha.is), Cravalho’s “bestie” and one of her 25 follows on Instagram, posted a photo of the friends posing in Capitals shirts together.
… finally being able to have the whole team together ❤️❤️❤️ #rockthered

The friends wore shirseys of Tom Wilson, Jay Beagle, Matt Niskanen, and former Swedish teen model Andre Burakovsky.
“… finally being able to have the whole team together ❤️❤️❤️ #rockthered,” wrote Trujillo, using the team’s hashtag.
In the comments of the photo, Trujillo was asked what sport the shirts were for.
“I play volleyball but the sport that the shirts are for is hockey.”
I reached out to Trujillo for comment on if the friends were Capitals fans and what the shirts were for, but did not get a reply before publication.
Trujillo has posted other photos that included her friends wearing Caps shirts, while tagging the players and the Capitals’ Instagram accounts.
… repping our @capitals shirts! ❤️ @tom_wilso @mattniskanen2 @chayrazy @andreburakovsky @kkeaniii

Another friend also wore a Caps shirt while eating at a Hawaiian restaurant.
… getting up at 5 am to go beach conditioning and then treating ourselves to Rainbow's! 🌈

I sent an email to Cravalho’s representation at CESD Talent asking for comment, but did not get a reply.
Regardless of how passionate her fanhood for the team is, Cravalho joins a growing list of Capitals fans across the world, which includes such notables as Pat Sajak, the bassist from The Flaming Lips, the band Periphery, and former SVU star Christopher Meloni.
What a small world.
