The morning after being traded, Kevin Shattenkirk flew to New York City for his first game with his brand new team. Shattenkirk brought along whatever he could fit on the flight and the clothes he was wearing on his body, checking into the team hotel later in the day.
While Shattenkirk’s jersey was freshly stitched before the game, the talented defenseman was missing several crucial warmup items. So it appears Braden Holtby gave Shatty one of his hoodies.
Earlier in the day, the Capitals’ Mike Vogel asked Shattenkirk about how hard it would be to acclimate to his new teammates. Shattenkirk believed the transition would be seamless due to longtime friend and former Blues’ teammate TJ Oshie.
“TJ is a teammate of mine who I’ve always valued and someone who has always been a close friend to me, so I think for me it makes it a little easier coming into the locker room and having a guy like him to help me out and make this an easy transition,” Shattenkirk said. “My job is to come in here and help this team make that final push and I am excited to do it.”
Wearing the hoodie of the NHL’s reigning Vezina Trophy is a good start.
