Nicklas Backstrom continued one of his greatest stretches of his career, tallying a goal in the first period against former teammate Michal Neuvirth.
It was Backstrom’s 18th goal of the season and his third in five games.

After some great forechecking by TJ Oshie and Alex Ovechkin, Backstrom picked up the loose biscuit and sniped a puck over Neuvy’s shoulder.
What a shot.
Backstrom now sits fourth in the league in points, trailing Oilers superstar Connor McDavid by five.
Since January 1st, Backstrom leads the entire NHL in points and assists and is third in powerplay points.
The goal was also Backstrom’s 183rd career goal, which leapfrogs him past former 60-goal scorer Dennis Maruk for ninth all-time.
