Several years ago, I contributed several video features for Caps Red Line. One of the producers of the show, Lindsey Bitler, was a very kind and passionate hockey fan who always made me look as good as I could possibly look (which is not very good) on TV.
That’s why I wanted to finally give back to her. Not only is Lindsey incredibly talented with digital media, she’s also an incredibly talented local ball hockey player. Lindsey was recently selected to represent United States of America at the 2017 Ball Hockey World Championships. Saturday night from 6pm – 9:30pm, she will be hosting a silent auction fundraiser at the Big Stick – a sports bar in the Navy Yard.
I’ll let her explain.
The Caps are playing a rare Saturday afternoon game. You can keep the hockey-love going in the evening with a silent auction fundraiser held at the Big Stick (Address: 20 M St SE, Washington, DC 20003). Caps tickets, autographs, and other items (hockey-themed & otherwise – over $5000 in value!) will be up for grabs at a Silent Auction Fundraiser tomorrow (Saturday, 2.18) at the Big Stick! The event is supporting two local women’s ball hockey players and the USA Women’s National Team as they prepare to compete in the 2017 World Ball Hockey Championships!
The auction is open from 6-9:30pm. It’s a win-win-win – 100% of the auction proceeds benefit the players’ quest for gold, you get to take home something awesome & the Big Stick is donating a portion of the food/beverage sales as well! Bottoms up for America!
What’s ball hockey? You may think of it as casual in-the-street-ouch-that-concrete-hurts – hockey, but it’s so much bigger than that. This summer, a few women from DC – myself included – will be competing for the USA Women’s National Team in the Czech Republic for the World Championship!
Ball hockey rules are nearly identical to ice hockey – except a lot (and we mean a lot) of running and an expanded offensive zone. There’s a large community of ball hockey players in DC, who play in regular leagues throughout the DMV weekly as well as in tournaments hosted everywhere from Las Vegas to Philly to Boston to Canada (of course!). Our local women’s travel team, the Stanley Cupcakes even compete amongst coed and men’s leagues locally to prepare for upcoming tournaments! At a few of these travel tournaments, the USA coaches and general managers evaluated all of the female players and selected the women’s national team roster. Tiff (who, by the way was recently named a Captain of the USA team!!!) and I are beyond excited to be representing our country and playing the sport we love!
Join us for a great event (the hockey community is the best!!!) and check out the Silent Auction Fundraiser page for more information!
