Brent Burns has been scoring in bunches no matter if he’s playing at home or on the road. Sunday, after scoring twice on Devils’ goaltender Cory Schneider in New Jersey, Burns tallied his 15th and 16th road goals of the 2016-17 season.
That now puts Burns one goal away from tying a former Capitals defenseman’s all-time road-goal record.

Former Capitals’ defenseman Kevin Hatcher scored 17 times on the road in 1992-1993. Hatcher finished that season with 34 goals, which led all NHL defensemen.
Sunday, Burns scored his first goal of the game in the second period. After regathering his own blocked rebound, Burns roofed a wrist shot past Schneider to tie the game 1-1.
Five minutes later, Burns sniped a shot past Schneider through traffic.
With 25 games remaining in the Sharks’ season (11 of them on the road), Burns appears well on his way to break Hatcher’s record and be a finalist for the Norris Trophy.

And yes, Burns still has more goals (24) than the entire Caps defense combined (19).
