Don’t look now. Nicklas Backstrom is now a point away from the league-lead in points.
In the first period, the Caps scored three goals and Backstrom tallied two points (one goal, one assist). He registered career point number 700 on TJ Oshie’s opening salvo, which was also Oshie’s career point number 400.
Point #400 for @TJOshie77.
Point #700 for @backstrom19.

Backstrom received the secondary assist after Oshie scored on a beautiful backhanded pass by Marcus Johansson.
Oshie just barely chipped the puck past John Gibson.
The Capitals initially received the power play after a dirty Corey Perry slew-foot of Daniel Winnik, which made the Winnie Bear very, very angry.
Backstrom would later score off an Alex Ovechkin rebound for point number 701. Oshie would tally the secondary assist on that goal for point number 401.
Way to go, boys.
💨 @Backstrom19 blows past his 700th @NHL point with a goal and assist, so far, in tonight's @Capitals game for a seven-game point streak. pic.twitter.com/SzfNQpEy04
