Alex Ovechkin just scored another big goal.
With 15 seconds remaining in the second period, Ovechkin unleashed a wicked shot from just outside The Ovi Spot to give the Caps a 3-2 lead over the Bruins. The goal is the 550th of Ovechkin’s career. It gives the Russian machine sole possession of 27th place on the all-time goalscoring list, passing longtime Penguin and Hartford Whaler Ron Francis.
There’s not much to describe here. Niskanen dishes the puck and then Ovi takes care of the rest, beating Rask above the left pad. How does he not break his stick?
Ovechkin now has 17 points in his last 12 games. He also passed Wayne Gretzky and is now tied with Joe Sakic (205) for 14th place on the all-time NHL power-play goals list.
