Since entering the league in 2005, Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby have been rivals on the ice and talked trash towards each other off of it.
While the rift between the two players has always been overblown, Ovechkin and Crosby have played rough against each other during games. The Russian machine has referred to Crosby’s franchise as “Shitsburgh” while Crosby has complained about the amount of lids thrown on the ice after an Ovechkin hat trick. Crosby did not salute Ovechkin after his 1,000th career point.
That’s why the 2017 All-Star Weekend has been so bizarre. Friday, during the NHL’s Top 100 Players Ceremony, Ovechkin and Crosby hung out and were very warm towards each other. Saturday night, the two Metropolitan Division All-Stars were inseparable during the All-Star Skills Competition.

Later, while Sidney Crosby took video for the NHL, PK Subban said what we’re all thinking.

“Who would have thought you two guys, eh?” Subban said. “F*cking together hanging out. Same team.”

Crosby and Ovechkin might even play on the same line during the All-Star Game. Metropolitan Division Head Coach Wayne Gretzky said it would be up to Crosvechkin if they wanted to.

After the Skills Competition ended, Ovechkin spoke about his new-found friendship with Crosby and the possibility of playing with him Sunday.
“We talk about shootings, how high/hard stick you gonna use, or shorter,” Ovechkin said. “Yeah, if it’s going to be tomorrow me and him going to play together it’s going to be fun. I’m going to try to pass him the puck, because I am a passer right now.
