Hours before taking on the Senators, the Washington Capitals called up Chandler Stephenson.
During Barry Trotz’s routine meeting with the press, we found out why. Capitals fourth-line center Jay Beagle got sick on the flight up to Ottawa.

“Yeah, he got on the plane, we thought we were okay, got on the plane,” Trotz said. “Flu bug. It’s been going through every team. You just don’t know when it’s going to hit and it hit last night on the flight here.”
Trotz said Stephenson will step right into Beagle’s spot on the fourth line with Daniel Winnik and Tom Wilson.
Saturday, Beagle scored his tenth goal of the season, which tied a career high he set in 2014-15. He also has 20 points on the season.
