Last week, the NHL released a fancy commercial promoting the 2017 NHL All-Star Game (which you probably saw 15 times during Caps-Penguins). Because this year’s edition of the game is being held in Los Angeles, California, the NHL went with a Hollywood theme and had several of its stars recite movie lines. Poorly.
Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby both make cameos, but the magic of their 2007 ASG ad is never quite achieved.
Ovechkin goes first, saying, “Any questions?” at the camera.
This is a famous line from several classic movies including The Shawshank Redemption, The Breakfast Club, and Oceans 11.
Though, let’s be real, David S. Pumpkins said it best.
Sidney Crosby is up next and, without any personality, utters, “Let’s just say I have some unique skills.” That quote is from the movie Taken and was first said by Liam Neeson.
Anze Kopitar is featured at the 16-second mark. “If you freeze it, it will skate,” the star forward whispers, playing off a line from Field Of Dreams.
Finally, the NHL had 2016 Hart Trophy winner, Patrick Kane, recite this famous Al Pacino line from Scarface.
How do you think this commercial turned out?
