Last week, former Capitals forward Brooks Laich congratulated Nicklas Backstrom on his 500th career assist. Wednesday night, Laich had even kinder words for his former captain, Alex Ovechkin, after the Russian machine hit 1,000 points.

“Congratulations to my man @aleksandrovechkinofficial on reaching the 1000 point plateau!” Laich wrote. “An amazing accomplishment by a #gr8 teammate and friend, you're the man O! #ovechk1n”
Tuesday, Laich posted a joke and Ovechkin actually responded on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Ovechkin also received a tweet from former Capitals defenseman John Erskine.
Congrats to @ovi8 on #1000. Such a great accomplishment! Such an honor to play with him for 9 years!
