Nicklas Backstrom’s tenth goal of the season inches Alex Ovechkin closer to point 1,000

Even without TJ Oshie, the Caps’ new-fangled first line authored the first goal of the game again Monday night.

After Alex Ovechkin unleashed a low, hard wrist shot to the far side of the net, Nicklas Backstrom deposited the rebound into the net for his tenth goal of the season.
