Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom was the hero Saturday night in Ottawa. Backstrom’s 500th career NHL assist would prove to be the difference maker in the Caps’ 1-0 victory over the Senators.
After the game, Backstrom posed with milestone puck along with the goalscorer, TJ Oshie, and the other assist man, Nate Schmidt.

I’m going to need to zoom here.
Hi, Nate!
“It was really special to be in that picture with him,” Schmidt said after the game.
Alex Ovechkin also managed to sneak into a photo.

“Congrats to my brother @nicke19 on reaching 500 assists!u the best👍,” Ovechkin said.
These photos are fantastic, but they’re still not as epic as the pic taken with Jason Arnott, after the midseason acquisition scored his 400th career NHL goal. Alex Ovechkin and Alex Semin posed with him shirtless and in towels. I’m also still partial to the photo taken after Alex Ovechkin’s franchise-record 473rd career goal, which Braden Holtby assisted on.
Congrats, Nicky!
