At 7pm, the Washington Capitals take on the New Jerseys Devils – the first game of a home and home series between the two teams. Alex Ovechkin will indeed play tonight, though an hour ago that might have been in doubt.
I’ll explain.
A video posted by Alexander Ovechkin (@aleksandrovechkinofficial) on
Power went out in Ovechkin’s Arlington home. Usually that’s not a big deal for normal humans, but the Russian machine has a gate powered by electricity. He was trapped. Thankfully, Ovi got some clutch help from a teammate.
“When power is out and you need to go to the game,” Ovechkin wrote on Instagram as translated by Igor Kleyner. “Electrician @kuzy092 always comes to the rescue 😂😂😂.”
In the video, Ovechkin, wearing his game-day suit, can be seen ambling over the gate with a ladder. Meanwhile, he argues with his 66-year-old mother, Tatyana Ovechkina, who is trying to convince her son that she too can also climb the gate. While Ovechkin calls Kuznetsov an electrician in the caption, it appears the only fixing Kuznetsov did was drive his teammate to the game in his own car.
Many of Ovechkin’s commenters made (bad) jokes that his home was hacked hours after Barack Obama dropped heavy sanctions on Russia for interfering with the American election. However there are heavy winds gusting in the area, which is likely the cause.
