Alex Ovechkin on Barry Trotz’s injury: ‘He’s okay – He tough man so he can handle it’

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin conducted a very serious interview with NHL Network during Caps Casino Night. While holding a CSN-branded microphone (for some reason), Ovechkin dished on his favorite casino games as well as who is the best card player on the team.

Ovechkin was also asked how Barry Trotz was doing after being struck in the head by an errant puck Saturday night.

“He’s okay,” Ovechkin said. “He tough man so he can handle it.”

Ovechkin tried to keep a straight face, but then began giggling.

What’s your favorite casino game?

Alex Ovechkin: Hey, what’s up, guys! I like to play roulette and black jack obviously. I don’t know if I’m going to have some luck tonight, but we’ll see.

Who among your teammates are the best card players?

Alex Ovechkin: We have lots of guys who can play cards, but probably Backstrom, Carlson, Oshie. All guys can play and can win.

What is the importance of tonight?

Alex Ovechkin: First of all we’re here to make the fans have fun. Obviously it’s a good thing it’s involved with a good charity thing. We love to do this kind of stuff. I wish we gonna do it more and more.

How is Coach Trotz’s head there – he got hit in the head? How’s he looking?

Alex Ovechkin: He’s okay. He tough man so he can handle it.

Do you have one more goal scoring title in you?

Alex Ovechkin: I can’t… I can’t hear you.

Alex are you going to win the goal-scoring title one more time?

Alex Ovechkin: You never know what’s going to happen in this league right now. Lots of young kids here. We’re going to try to keep them out.

Do you have any sort of strategy with black jack or playing roulette?

Alex Ovechkin: Be honest with you, I don’t have any strategy. I just have to hit the number or red or black. So if I get lucky, I win. If not, next time.

Ovi, are you guys happy with how the Caps are doing on the ice?

Alex Ovechkin: Obviously we happy. Of course you can’t win all the games. Last year we won President’s Trophy. It was a big step in our organization. Now we’re looking forward to having the same year and hopefully we gonna be better in playoffs. Team’s looking forward and we know each other well. We know the system. It’s kind of easy for us to handle this type of pressure.

What is it going to take for this team to get over the hump and win the Stanley Cup?

Alex Ovechkin: Be honest with you, man, every year we think like this is our team, this is our year, but something happens. I think everything have to be in our side: luck, referees, goaltendings on different teams. Most important thing is: it’s all about us. We have to be on the same page and work hard to get a goal.
