Alex Ovechkin will have a very Happy (American) Thanksgiving with his video game console tomorrow. The Russian machine scored his 16th career hat trick on Thanksgiving eve, feasting on Carter Hutton’s merely average goaltending.
Let me set the scene. Ovechkin tallied a power play goal in the first period and a one-time goal in the second. In the third, Ovechkin raced up the ice after a Caps’ faceoff loss, and boomeranged a wrist shot past Hutton to complete the trick.
Let the hats fly!

My first GIF is going to be from a real-time camera angle trained on Ovechkin skating the puck up the ice. I want you focus on how quickly he releases the puck and how quickly it ramps up into the air. No goaltender can stop this. The puck is a blur.
Then on top of that, the shot was pinpoint perfect and bar down.
There was a several minute delay as officials had to pick up a hundred or so Caps hats that were thrown on the ice.
Ovi’s last hat trick was against these same St. Louis Blues last April. The three goals gave the Russian machine his seventh 50th goal season.
The Great Eight now trails Peter Bondra by three for the franchise record in hat tricks.
Just like all the others, this record will fall. pic.twitter.com/2kBXITebZi

Ovi’s sly smile on the bench was the best.
Here are Ovechkin’s other two goals on the night.

After the game, Ovi was awarded the team’s Will Over Skill robe.

This tweet pretty much summed up the night.
Every once in awhile the Captain's gotta come back and remind you why he's the greatest goal scorer who ever lived
