Braden Holtby’s shutout bid tonight ended abruptly in the third period. The Caps gave up one of the strangest shorthanded goals that you’ll see this season.
John Carlson started the strange play by attempting a cross-ice backhanded pass. Jets defenseman Tobias Enström stepped up and picked off the pass. Holtby saw an opportunity to move out of his crease and play the puck.
Unfortunately, so did Carlson who ran into the netminder, flying high into the air. As both players were down on the ice, Enstrom slipped the puck into an empty net.
This goal began a spiral by the Capitals who saw the Jets score three unaswered goals in 10 minutes to tie the game.
