Early in the first period, the Caps’ bottom line put on a forechecking clinic in the Flames’ zone. Strong corner work by Zach Sanford got it started, then Jay Beagle made an excellent backhanded pass from behind the net to hit Connolly, who scored with a one-timer.
Connolly last scored on March 7, when he was with Boston. It only took five professional games for Sandord to score his first NHL point. Last season, Sanford played for Boston College.
