When the game clock goes under 10 minutes in the first period, the Capitals take a TV timeout. It was at that point, with the Caps (for the moment) up 1-0 over the Islanders, that we finally got to say thank you to Jason Chimera.
The video paid tribute to Chimera’s seven years of service in red, including some big playoff moments. The net-crashing goal to fell the Rangers was in there, as was Chimera’s center-ice fluke goal from just a few months back.
That could be enough of a career to hang your hat on, but Chimmer wants more. The 37 year old has been playing with John Tavares on the NYI’s first line in this still-early season.
The Verizon Center crowd went bananas after the video played.
A message from #Caps to Jason Chimera who plays his first regular season game with the Islanders since leaving Washington. Thanks, Chimmer! pic.twitter.com/H8dfDqdez6

If you ever read this, and I know you won’t, thank you, Jason.
