Thursday night in Pittsburgh, Capitals forward Justin Williams face-tackled Evgeni Malkin to the ice after the Russian superstar whacked goaltender Braden Holtby.
“It was like a different sport,” Malkin said of the hit, comparing Williams’ takedown to a wrestling or MMA move. “I’m OK. It was nothing bad.”
Well judging from this (very unreal) play-by-play I just unearthed by former WWE announcer Jim Ross, Williams’ takedown had malice and the resulting melee was one hell of a slobberknocker. Think of Evgeni’s family, Justin.
Here’s Ross doing the play-by-play.
And here’s the Vine.
“He’s going to get his a%^ whipped, he’s going to get his a%^ whipped in Pittsburgh,” Ross screams. “Woah, Jesus! God almighty! For the love of God, get some security out here.”
Last night, I reported that Williams’ takedown was similar to Diamond Dallas Page’s Diamond Cutter. After some closer video analysis, it more resembled Dolph Zigger’s Zig Zag finisher.
While Williams’ angry face check of Malkin was brutal, Ross had an even more excitable call during Tom Wilson’s bodycheck of Lubomir Visnovsky two seasons ago.
Thanks to Art Livak for the idea.
