During the 2010 Winter Olympics, Alex Ovechkin rocked Jaromir Jagr with what he later would describe as “the best hit in my life.” Six years later, Jaromir Jagr’s body is ready for more devastation.
On Thursday, the NHL legend* spoke with the Miami Herald’s George Richards about Hurricane Matthew, the powerful Category 3 storm churning just off the Florida coast. The catastrophic storm was blamed for the deaths of more than 280 people in Haiti.
“I’m okay,” Jagr said to Richards. “[Some] people have to survive two weeks without water, I can try for two days.”
Earlier in the week, millions of Floridians were ordered to evacuate by Governor Rick Scott. “This storm will kill people,” Scott said during a press conference Thursday. “Are you willing to take a chance to risk your life? Are you willing to take a gamble?”
Jagr, trying to lighten the mood or something, would not back down.
“I have to test my body,” Jagr said. “I want to see how strong I am.”
Jagr joins fellow current Floridian Vanilla Ice as another dumb human who has chosen to ride out the hurricane and its 120mph winds.
This hurricane is serious and coming right at me. I'm going to ride out the storm. I'll keep you updated pic.twitter.com/LQGzAFY9O8

Ice, who once rapped “if you have a problem, yo, I’ll solve it,” was vaporized by the Florida Democrats Twitter account.
We advise listening to your local officials, not @vanillaice. If you are in an evacuation zone, you should leave now. #HurricaneMatthew https://t.co/Xt1XkH4ftk

Despite the seriousness of the situation, Jagr espoused a conspiracy theory regarding the storm.
“Everything’s sold out. It’s a great business for the US,” Jagr joked. “Maybe they’re just saying that [there’s a hurricane because] they just want to sell everything in the shopping [centers].”
