Over the last six years, we have been asked two things over and over: 1) RMNB, when are you getting an app? and 2) RMNB, will you please host a hockey tournament? We answered the first question last week. The second we’re announcing right now.
On Saturday, September 24, we will be hosting a floor hockey tournament (shoes, not rollerblades) for the RMNB community at the Rockville Sportsplex. The cost is $40 per player. Reserve your spot here.
Let’s jump down to see all the super awesome details.
Date: Saturday, September 24, 2016
Location: (Indoors) Rockville Sportsplex (60 Southlawn Court Rockville, MD 20850)
Time: 3:30 pm – 10 pm
Cost: $40 per person | Secure your spot hereTourney Format: Our goal is to get two different divisions of 4 teams each, each team with 10 floor players and a goalie. This means we like to have 8 total teams of 88 players!
With 10 floor players on each team and the 5 on 5 format, each team should have two lines, facilitating a ton of playing time. As of right now, our plan is to have one division that will be RECREATIONAL. The other division will be PRO (More Seasoned Players).
One division will play from 3:30 – 6:45 pm. The other division will play from 6:45 – 10 pm. Each team must have at least TWO female players.
Game Format: There will be three Round Robin games of 20 mins each. Then there will be single elimination playoffs. Playoff games are 15 min each.
RULES: We will use DCHL Leagues ball hockey rules. No checking allowed and safety is paramount.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: Hockey stick and shin guards
OTHER EQUIPMENT STRONGLY SUGGESTED: Gloves and helmet
More info will be provided on September 23 in an email which includes the time you’ll need to be at the arena, what colored shirt you should wear, and the full rosters.
I went down and visited the Sportsplex a few weeks ago and the space literally has an arena feel to it. There is a full-sized astroturf field, protective netting, goals, and a scoreboard. There will also be officials who are volunteering their time to ref the games.
The event will be managed by one of the coolest people on earth, DCHL commissioner Suds. The winner of the tournament in each league will get to raise the coveted Gr8 Missing Tooth Trophy – photos of which are coming soon.
We had a ton of people interested in the tournament just on Twitter alone, so we encourage you to reserve your spot immediately as roster spots will go very fast once the word gets out.
Would there be interest for a pay-to-play RMNB street hockey tournament in September? Favorite this post if you'd consider participating.

If you’re interested in fielding an entire team and playing with friends, we are totally fine with that. Just please have them sign up first and then shoot us an email with all of the names so we can keep you together.
For me, the neatest part of this fundraiser is that you will also get your name on a NASCAR October 1 at Dover International Speedway and help a Caps fan get one step closer to realizing his dream. You’ll even receive digital photos of your name on the car so that you can brag to all of your friends.
Finally, if that’s not enough, the Rockville Sportsplex is interested in doing more with us in the future if you guys have a big response to this event.
In closing, thanks again for your enthusiasm for this site, the Caps, and hockey in general. I hope this is the first of many hockey-playing events we can do in the future.
Let us know if you have any questions in the comments. See you the 24th!
