Over the weekend, Nastya Shubskaya posted a selfie with her fiance Alex Ovechkin, both of whom were back in Russia. The caption of the photo did not include words – only a heart emoji repeated three times.
And then the Russian media did its thing.
I’ll let NTV.ru explain.
There are reports circulating in the Russian media that Alex Ovechkin and Nastya Shubskaya got married. The reporters are making this conclusion based on the fact that the couple is wearing white [in Nastya’s Instagram photo].

Because she wore white she must therefore be married. Not a strong case, but there is some evidence from other sometimes credible Russian sources suggesting that this news is – at the least – plausible.
When we last checked in with news of Ovi’s wedding, Russian Cosmopolitan editor Nastya Yudaeva said the couple would marry in August.
Aspiring actress and model Nastya Shubskaya very soon will become the wife of a hockey player, Alexander Ovechkin. The couple has said that the festivities are planned for this August, and it appears they are actively preparing for the occasion. The 22-year-old Shubskaya visits beauty salons as well as a beautician.
NTV.ru reported that Ovechkin missed a scheduled appearance on Friday.
On August 19, there was an opening ceremony of a new hockey arena in Ekaterinburg. Legendary Russian hockey players were scheduled to attend. However, Ovechkin declined the invitation to visit citing unnamed circumstances.
KP.ru managed to talk to a family friend of Alex Ovechkin who answered our question wether it was true that they got married by saying, “They had a wedding ceremony. The wedding itself will be in a year.”
R-Sport spoke to Shubskaya’s movie star mother, Vera Glagoleva, but she was unwilling to share any information.
“I do not comment on private life,” she said.
Ovechkin and Shubskaya have not commented since the media firestorm.
Nastya’s last name may or may not be Ovechkin, but there’s a summary of what you missed on the Russian internet.
