Earlier in the morning, Lyla Oshie kicked the crap out of a Penguins poster, throwing the Oshie family feet first into the Caps-Pens rivalry.
Later Thursday night, Lyla’s father TJ had the game of his life, scoring a hat trick and dramatically dispatching the Penguins with a wraparound. The goal was reviewed but stood up as the overtime game-winning goal.
Here are the three goals.
In the first period, Oshie scored on a breakaway, roofing the puck past Matt Murray. The goal tied the game.
In the third period, Oshie put the Caps ahead, taking an Alex Ovechkin pass and backhanding the puck five hole.
Finally 9:33 into the first overtime, Oshie ended it, going around the net and wrapping the puck past Murray. Hats fell to the ice.
After an extensive review, it was determined the puck just crossed the goal line. Fans threw more hats.
Oshie spoke with Pierre McGuire after the game and credited pre-game video study.
“The last [goal], just doing video and stuff, the way their tender plays, he’s pretty aggressive, big guy,” Oshie said. “And we were hoping we could beat him to the far post if we got a chance. Close one, but I’m glad it went. ”
