Former Capitals defenseman Mike Green usually is a lover, not a fighter. Hence why I was surprised to see Green jump head first into an angry line brawl during the waning moments of Wings/Bolts Game Two.
What a legend.
The animosity between the Red Wings and Lightning had been building since Game One. Late in the third period when the Red Wings’ Brad Richards slashed Andrej Sustr, things turned downright ugly. All ten skaters participated in the brawl. The Lightning’s Mike Blunden had to get nine stitches after being repeatedly punched in the cranium by Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader.
You can see the whole thing here.
Here’s a look at Blunden after the melee.
Green was actually given a ten-minute misconduct for his role in the brawl. He pretty much laid on the bottom of the pile the whole time.
The internet made many jokes.

Will there be retribution in Game Three from the Lightning?
Asked if he expects there to be any retaliation in Game 3 for Abdelkader punching Blunden, Cedric Paquette responds "probably" #TBLightning
