With his first-period goal, Alex Ovechkin‘s career total is now 513, the same number that Jeremy “horses***” Roenick scored.
Ovi’s league-leading 38th of the season, also his 17th goal in the last 17 games, started way back in the defensive zone, with a smart breakout pass by Brooks Orpik.
Orpik got the puck into neutral, but it was Dmitry Orlov who sent the pass to Ovi, who was waiting in the slot.
Ovechkin drifted backwards and unleashed a five-hole shot under Cory Schneider.

Ovechkin’s next goal will confirm what we already know: that he rules and J.R. drools. Next on the list is Pierre Turgeon with 515 goals. At his current pace, Ovi might hit that on Monday.
