This might be the understatement of the century, but the 2015-16 Washington Capitals are really good. They’ve won 35 of their first 46 games, they hold a 12-point lead over Florida in the Eastern Conference, and they’ve got a 14-point cushion over the Rangers for the Metropolitan Division crown.
But if we turn our heads to the President’s Trophy race, that’s where things get even crazier.
So, the Capitals currently have a three-point lead on the Blackhawks in the Presidents Trophy race but have played six fewer games.

With the Caps having both of their weekend games postponed due to snow, you’d think that they’d lose all of their ground to other teams simply because they haven’t played.
Coming into Tuesday’s slate of games, the Capitals have a three-point lead over the Blackhawks with six games on hand. The Capitals have two games in hand on Eastern Conference rival Florida, whom they lead by 12 points. And Florida recently won 12 games in a row. The Capitals in fact have multiple games in hand on every team in the standings.
Unreal.
