Alex Ovechkin is unable to can’t. With 500 goals under his belt, Ovi could have kicked up his loafers and watched the grinders play out the duration of Sunday’s whipping of the Senators. He could have done that, but he didn’t. Instead, Ovechkin scored another goal, a Signature Ovi goal, the kind that made him the world’s greatest scorer in the first place. And he did it on two-time Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson.
This is vintage Ovi.
Ovi carried the puck from center ice, driving into the offensive zone with deliberation and 240 pounds of Russian meat in support.
Ovi went wide, like has has a hundred times before, and then back to the slot. Somehow on the other side of the defense, all that was left was the matter of a snapshot to the near side.
And that is the story of the 501st goal of the greatest athlete in DC history.
