Mike Green, one of the best defensemen to ever wear a Caps uniform, returns to DC tonight. This raises an important question:
Will you "whoop" Mike Green tonight?

For those who are unfamiliar, here’s a history of the whoop, courtesy of Peerless.
If I happened to be attending the game tonight (spoiler: I’m not), I would be in the “No” crowd. If you do plan to whoop Green, just do so knowing that I disapprove of you, your face, and likely your entire existence.
The hopefully whoop-free game will be brought to you by NBCSN at 7:30 PM.
| Team | Record | Possession | PDO | Power Play | Penalty Kill |
| Washington Capitals | 18-5-2 | 53.0% | 101.3 | 25.6% | 83.8% |
| Detroit Red Wings | 15-8-4 | 51.6% | 101.3 | 17.2% | 81.1% |
Projected Lineup
Some dudes were banged up, but all indications are everyone is healthy enough to play. The only exception is Brooks Orpik, who last played in the late 80s when Michael Jackson released Man in the Mirror. Per ya bff, Katie Brown:
Ovechkin – Backstrom – Oshie
Johansson – Kuznetsov – Williams
Chimera – Beagle – Burakovsky
Laich – Latta – Wilson
Schmidt – Carlson
Alzner – Niskanen
Orlov – Chorney
Holtby
This Day in Music
Thirty-five years ago today, John Lennon passed away after being shot outside the building where he lived in NYC. Many of his songs remain relevant and poignant to this day, including this one from the 1971 album Imagine.
Storylines
- Welcome home, Mike. You remember Mike Green, right?
- Alex Semin cleared waivers. He’s been assigned to the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps. What a world.
- Fantastic story about Ovi the Leader by Burnside. Must read. There’s a bunny suit in it.
- Barry Trotz is still rightfully beating the Nick Backstrom for Selke drum.
- We are all this tiny Caps fan.
- Evgeny Kuznetosv posted a photo to Instagram and then Michael Latta and Kuzy did the thing that the Caps do on Instagram, which I find endlessly entertaining, b-t-dubs.
- Speaking of Kuzy, this 3v3 shifts vs the Jets is worth revisiting.
- And here’s Kuzy on Kuzy’s success.
- Sean McIndoe tells the sad story of the high-flying Caps and their pathetic end.
- Steve Montador’s family has filed suit against the NHL. From the suit: “The NHL knew that by eliminating staged fights from their game they would decrease drug addiction and depression in the men it enlisted in the barbaric role.” Whoa.
- There have been some concerning trends in the Caps’ play recently.
- Howard in net.
DET goalie Petr Mrazek has a .969 sv% in two games vs. Caps this year; .944 sv% in career vs. WSH and 1.54 GAA. He's not starting tonight.
