Last week, we broke the news that Brooks Laich was snubbing Tom Wilson and Michael Latta on Instagram. Basically, Laich’s linemates were so desperate for an Instagram follow that they started commenting on his photos with fans.
“Can a liney get a follow back,” Latta begged in one Instagram post.
“Still waitin’ on a follow back from the left winger of the hottest line in hockey,” Wilson typed.
Last Wednesday, 106.7 The Fan’s Sports Junkies told Laich about our story in their weekly segment together.
“Is that honestly a headline? I had no idea,” Laich said laughing.
Yes, it is Brooks. We cover The Important Things here.
Laich then explained his long elaborate plan to follow Wilson and Latta. It sounded similar to a promposal.
“I had invited both of those guys over for supper last [Tuesday],” Laich said. “I was gonna barbeque for them, put on a little surf and turf for them. We were gonna watch the DWTS finale, because they’re big fans of the show as well. And I was gonna, I told Julianne this, I was gonna follow both of those cats on Instagram yesterday and just make their day. That’s what I had planned; that’s the God’s honest truth.”
But then life gave Laich an unfortunate curveball.
“It didn’t work out where they could come for supper, Tom has friends in town,” Laich said. “But they’re getting close, they’re getting real close. I love those two guys and they’re a lot of fun every day. I know it means a lot to them so I’ll probably have to follow them here pretty quick.”
So it’s been a week. Has Laich logged onto Instagram and taken the ten seconds it takes to follow his teammates? Let’s take a look.
He still only follows his fiancee, Julianne Hough.
“I don’t really follow what people do on there,” Laich admitted later. “I’m not that interested in that sort of thing.”
Well if you ever do get interested, Brooksie, here’s your teammates handles: @tom_wilso and @latta17. Until then, they’ll say hello in your comments.
Make sure to read Chris Lingebach’s story (which is much funnier than mine) and hear the audio here.
