RMNB reader Ned Belliveau (creator of Too Many Caps) is super excited for this season. He’s so excited in fact that he spent hours upon hours making the above pump-up video, set to Karmin’s Brokenhearted. He wants you the feel the same dang way.
I’ll let Ned explain:
For the first time since Bruce Boudreau’s firing the Capitals are legitimate Stanley Cup contenders. That’s a lot to be excited about!
Ovechkin is a virtual lock to score 50+ goals again, especially with the arrival of TJ Oshie and the return of a healthy Nicklas Backstrom. I think Oshie and Williams, coupled with the development of Burakovsky, Kuznetsov, and (hopefully) Tom Wilson, give the Capitals three legitimate scoring lines.
The defense has some questions in the third pairing but I think Schmidt is a very capable third-pairing defenseman with decent potential and I think Orlov could produce some offense, even in limited minutes. However, if there are any defensive deficiencies they will be covered by Holtby. He’s one of the best in the NHL and performs in the postseason at an even higher level.
All the guys seem to have great team chemistry and are buying into Trotz’s system, which really turned the team around from the Oates years. This team is going to score a lot of goals, lay down some big hits, and make some amazing saves. This season is, at the very least, going to be fun.
Let’s do this, Caps!
