Here’s RMNB’s Birthday Card to Ovi illustrated by Rachel Cohen
Today is one of the gr8est days of the year. On this beautiful Thursday, September 17th, we celebrate the 30th birthday of our blog’s namesake, Alex Ovechkin.
For the last five years, we– together as a community– have answered a difficult question: what do you get the millionaire athlete who has it all? That answer is apparently noodle art and poorly executed graphics made in Microsoft Paint.
This year we want your birthday cards again. But we also want to expand it to your own kind words and personal stories about Ovechkin. What has Ovi done to make you fall in love with the sport? Was it a special gesture? Was it a sick unbelievable goal he scored? His joy and enthusiasm for this sport is what has made the last ten years special. He deserves to know the impact he’s had.
Please upload your submissions in the comments below and do us proud by upvoting your favorites. The winner will receive their choice of one of RMNB’s brand new t-shirts that we’re releasing on Tuesday.
(DISQUS, our comment system, has a great explainer on how to properly upload JPEGs and link to all other rich media like GIFs, Youtube, Vine, and tweets.)
Joining us already are our friends from Caps Reddit and the Capitals organization, who were kind enough to recognize the event’s popularity over the last few years and try it themselves. We encourage cross-posting (just please don’t steal Rachel’s art and claim it as your own).
Have fun. I can’t wait to see what you guys submit!
