Last week, the Washington Capitals tore down the giant banner of Mike Green that hung over the parking deck adjacent to the Ballston Common Mall. On Friday, they unfurled a replacement banner: Braden Holtby.
That should be comforting to fans who are nervous about Holtby’s contract situation.
Well, that didn't last long. New Braden Holtby banner where Mike Green's used to be. pic.twitter.com/QAZvBDPPLg

In a way, the banner is a sideways answer to a question we get asked a lot over email and social media. As a restricted free agent, Holtby is practically certainly going to re-sign; the only questions are how long and how much. This banner tells us the Caps are confident they’ll get the deal done, which should be reassuring to anxious Holtby fans.
Last week, we reported that the Capitals and Holtby were close on a deal and about a million apart on his AAV. On Sunday, Holtby filed for arbitration, a tense process that often leaves both the player and team unhappy, but it’s more likely that the parties will reach a compromise before that happens.
Thanks to @dcsportsbog for first retweeting @sl_lbcake. Thanks to @katiebhockey for taking a better picture for us.
