Be honest: you saw this coming. After last night’s thrilling win over the Bruins, the Caps weren’t quite so motivated playing on the road against the league’s escape goats, the Buffalo Sabres.
Why was this even a contest? Because the Capitals are gaslighting you right now basically. They want to see you crack. Don’t let them see you crack, fan.
Jason Chimera looked particularly goat-tastic on Buffalo’s first goal, a give-and-go sequence capped off by Tyler Ennis. Curtis Glencross scored– yet again in the first period– cleaning up Matt Niskanen’s rebound during the power play. Cody Hodgson got a fluke goal off Braden Holtby’s back to give the Sabres the lead.
“…to give the Sabres the lead”

Mike Green showed tremendous patience in finding the empty 80 percent of Anders Lindback’s net in the second period, so we went into the third tied.
Evgeny Kuznetsov put the Capitals in the lead in the third period, which shouldn’t have been a big deal considering the opponent, but here we are, genuinely excited about the Caps leading the Buffalo Sabres, and even that didn’t last. Johan Larsson deflected a shot by Chad Ruhwedel, who really is an actual hockey player and not just a name you get by slamming on your keyboard like Wefwejop.
Anyway, overtime didn’t decide anything, so…
Shootout bullets!
- Ennis did not put the biscuit in the basket
- Kuznetsov put the biscuit in the basket with a jaunty waltz
- Moulson did not put the biscuit in the basket
- Backstrom did not put the biscuit in the basket
- Whoever went last did not put the biscuit in the basket
Caps beat Sabres 4-3 in the shootout. yey they beat the sabres.
- Tom Wilson lasted about half the game on the top line before Marcus Johansson took over. There was even a penalty that Wilson wasn’t involved in!
- I’m grateful for CSN+ having this broadcast. Joe B, a goalie in his own right, missed no opportunities to remark on Anders Lindback‘s flubbery rebounds.
- I wanna know about what Joe B thought of Cory Hodgson’s goal, which sailed high before
- The Capitals power play perpetuated its prolific production with Curtis “Gold Rush” Glencross‘s and Evgeny Kuznetsov‘s goals. If you ask me, that conversion rate kind of belies how bad the Caps PP has been in neutral lately. But 9 for 17– wow.
Kuznetsov with a PP snipe to put #Caps up 3-2 at 5:55 of third. #Caps now 9-for-17 on PP in last eight games. #CapsSabres

- All of Glencross’s goals have come in the first period. Dude is Drucing right now.
- Less Drucey: Troy Brouwer, who made the most curious of seam passes during a second-period power play (into a cluster of Sabres sticks) and then committed a tripping penalty a full 190 feet from the Caps net while defending a one-goal lead in the third period. Brouwer also had a great sh0t-attempt differential during 5v5 (18 to 6), so what do I know?
- And yet, Tim Gleason‘s breakout pass directly to Buffalo earns my facedesk of the night.
- Alex Ovechkin had twenty-one (21) shot attempts: 8 shots, 10 misses, 3 blocked shots. That’s a lot, and yet nary a one hit the back of the net like a floppy salmon.
- Good game for Evgeny Kuznetsov with a goal in rego and one in the gimmick. Dude didn’t celebrate one bit. ice in his veins.
- Finally, it was not Braden Holtby‘s night, therefore trade the bum, and Neuvirth would of got the shut out.

Joe B three-piece suit of the night
Sorry for the short recap. I’m feeling a little rough. Go Caps.
p.s. come to our party on Saturday!
