A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the Washington Capitals were dominating the NHL leaderboard. Another fun milestone comes tonight. Alex Ovechkin has taken over the league lead in points from… Nicklas Backstrom! Yup, it’s still a great (er, GR8) time to be a Caps fan.
Ovechkin and Backstrom lead all three of the NHL’s major offensive categories (goals, assists, and points). The Caps duo is in a four-way tie for the points lead. Ovechkin, Backstrom, Jakub Voracek, and John Tavares all have 65 points. Ovi receives the tie-breaker since he has the most goals.
Reader Paul M. also tells us that Ovi is only 12 goals away from being in the Top 50 of all-time NHL goals scored. Awesome.
